Mick Felder...the memorial service of a wonderful friend...

Last Saturday, 8th December 2018, Dave Smith with his family and some friends organised a memorial service for Mick Felder in his business premises.. Felder's Body Shop ( a panel beaters shop to those in the UK, NZ & Australia ) at 210 Pacific Coast Hwy, Hermosa Beach, Cal. from 8am to 2pm with friends, family all invited to wander though the grounds to look at Micks life's collection of cars, motorcycles, memorabilia and partake of refreshments with a short service by a Salvation Army Officer.
Meaning so much to me I had to attend.... so caught the 11.25am United flight out of Sydney, Australia on the 8th, then by the quirk of the international date line, arrived into LAX at 6am still on the Saturday 8th where Larry Luce was waiting for me..only having a light backpack I was out of customs etc in no time... I had the rest of the day for Mick, my flight home being 10.25pm that same night, Sat.8th December.
We drove to the Ocean Diner on Aviation Drive where Mick always had what he called breakfast...coffee and time to do the crossword in the LA Times... a memory...

Larry sitting in "Mick's seat" and myself where I always sat when I visited him..
So lets have a photographic stroll through the day's activities and see the many Velocette friends, Rotarians, Hermosa Beach locals and just friends...
Mick's house close by in 2nd Street...

Mick was there......
 Dave Smith...Mick's nephew....

Dave's family and grand children...

Friends released two cages of white pigeons/doves in Mick's memory...after circling several times they flew off...

Later in the afternoon a continuation of the NA Velocette OC Christmas party continued at Ela and Larry Luce's house in Huntington Beach...
Come 7pm Larry and I were off to LAX where I boarded my flight back to Sydney, Australia , again by a quirk of the international date-line I flew into Sydney at 8.50am Monday 10th December...
This Saturday, 15th out of Sydney on a local Velocette Owners ride I've a small container with some of Mick's ashes.. Dave had pressed it into my hand..."Take some of Mick to Australia with you" he said....
So we'll stop in the bush and I'll sprinkle Mick into it... so he'll always be with us here in "OZ" ....
Vale Mick...my good friend...

Mick Felder...the sad passing of a wonderful friend...

Larry Luce's email came like a bolt out of the blue...

"I am frankly shocked and very sad to have to announce that Mick Felder has succumbed to pneumonia. He had been making good progress in recuperating from his recent injuries but had struggled with bouts of pneumonia over the past few years and in his weakened state he experienced a sudden recurrence and quick demise."

I was so saddened when I read of Mick's passing and wept openly...such a wonderful ever giving friend... a stalwart to the Australian and New Zealand Velo people who he assisted in so many ways with their plans to participate in the US/Canadian Velocette events.... Such a wonderful friend to me....

He was at an All British ride from Hanson Dam I think it's called in the Los Angeles area the other Sunday and somehow crashed the Triumph he was riding and taken to a nearby hospital to Intensive Care ward with a broken hip, broken arm, broken wrist and either broken ribs or collarbone... Crikey... He was recovering but succumbed to pneumonia and passed quickly.

So let's have a wander through my photos with Mick......

Mick ran his panel beating business at 210 Pacific Coast Hwy, Hermosa Beach, California from 1958....

Mick as we knew him in his Felders Body Shop Office...

He was always involved in the local community..a member of the Hermosa Chamber of Commerce, Hermosa Rotary, Hermosa Salvation Army "Meals on Wheels"....
The Chamber put out a short video on Mick ..click on this link...A video of Mick

Mick's first big trip to Australia was in early 2003 for the "Cape to Cape" Rally and was accompanied by US Velo riders Gil Loe, Larry Luce, Mike Jongblood and Paul D'Orleans.....
He was back in October 2005 for the Australian Velocette OC Centenary of Velocette week long rally held in Richmond on the western outskirts of Sydney...below...

The plan was to try to get 100 Velocettes for the Centenary.... in fact there were over 140 lined up..
Larry Luce with wife Ella again shipped his MSS Velocette over for the Rally from California...
